Woodcraft
You play as forest people running competing workshops in the woods boasting your skills in woodcraft. You’ll gather wood and craft goods for your customers. Along the way, you hire helpers, improve your workshop, and buy different types of wood and other tools.
Gameplay
On your turn you select one action tile and perform the depicted action. You’ll the place the tile back on the central wheel into the next section. In this way tiles that are not chosen will provide benefits the longer they stay in their spot. Before or after the main action there are different free actions you can perform. During the game, players complete their projects with wood (dice) that can be cut down to size, glued back together, and adjusted using dice manipulation to be as efficient as possible with their resources. The orders you’re gathering require you to have the exact shape (represented by pips) and colour dice depicted on the cards. Recourses are scarce, so you have some tough nuts to crack managing those, while you’re trying to develop your income tracks and set yourself up for a big multiplier for finished orders.
Summarised
Woodcraft has some serious brain melting potential. Though performing an action is easy enough, sequencing your free actions and building towards big combo turns is a whole different story. There is a lot to discover within the gameplay and the strategies to expand upon. You’re constantly enhancing and expanding your workshop to create sufficient momentum. On top of that fulfilling orders by sawing your dice to pieces and glueing others together feels very thematic. Not for the faint hearted.
